Opponents to plans for a giant commuter car park will meet at the weekend.

The Patcham Against Insensitive and Destructive Development group wants to stop a park-and-ride site from being built at the gateway to Brighton and Hove.

It will report its latest news at the Patcham Community Centre, Ladies' Mile Road, Patcham, on Saturday at 10.30am.

Members are trying to stop Brighton and Hove City Council building a park-and-ride either at Patcham Court Farm or Braypool Playing Field, two sites close to where the A27 meets the A23.

Speakers will talk about what has been done so far to oppose the proposals.

The group argues the car park would increase traffic, pollute the environment and pose a risk to water supplies as petrol and oil could seep through the ground.

It will present a petition to a full council meeting on Thursday, October 13.

Chairman Dave Tyrrell said: Our best chance of stopping these proposals is before they reach the planning stage.

"They will go through unless we act now."

Council officers are due to report to the policy and resources committee before it meets on December 7 to make a decision about whether to take either site forward.
