As a fairly regular visitor to Brighton, I can well appreciate the sense of anger and frustration which runs throughout DJ Knowles' letter (September 26) regarding the run-down state of London Road.

Of much greater concern is the deplorable lack of respect she witnessed.

I am sure her feelings will be shared by many of your readers.

Such unsocial behaviour, bad manners and lack of respect have become almost the norm among a significant number of the younger generations.

One wonders if there is any hope of a return to the standards we once took for granted, although some will say the age of miracles has passed.

No doubt, the subject of law and order will be on the Labour Party's agenda this week so I hope the roles of parents, teachers, police and the courts will be debated in the fullest possible context.
