Adam Trimingham is wrong when he says the problem for the Lib Dems is Charles Kennedy's leadership (The Argus, September 21). It goes deeper than that.

They lack coherent policies.

Look at the shambles at last week's conference in Blackpool. The delegates were urged to be bold, let their hair down and be reckless. What did they come up with - let's break up the NHS. What sort of political suicide note is that?

Both the Tories and the Lib Dems have not even begun to consider the process of party transformation. Tony Blair completed this for Labour more than a decade ago. You have got to admire the Prime Minister.
