The possibility of bumping into Brad Pitt while out shopping has sent housebuyers' interest in a city's properties soaring.

Brighton and Hove has topped the number one spot on a house-hunting web site since news broke that the world's most fanciable man could be heading to the area.

The number of people looking for Brighton and Hove homes on Findaproperty.com has almost doubled during the past week.

Sarah Boorman, of Findaproperty, said: "The association of Brad Pitt with Brighton and Hove looks set to make an impact on the property market if our site traffic is anything to go by."

Pitt is working alongside architect Frank Gehry on designs for the £220 million King Alfred development in Hove, which got its first green light by Brighton and Hove City Council two weeks ago.

He says he may take a flat in the development.

The council decided the proposals met its planning conditions, paving the way for developers to submit their first planning application.

If the scheme goes ahead, the Hollywood star would design a restaurant and penthouse for the site.
