How I agree with the sentiments of Jean Chillingworth (Letters, September 27) deploring the condition of the bus shelters on the west side of the Old Steine, near the Royal Pavilion.
I have known these shelters for decades and sadly they do not seem to have been looked after properly.
As with so many other cherished structures in Brighton, the city council just doesn't seem willing to maintain and take pride in them.
The bandstand on the seafront comes to mind as a victim of gross neglect. It should not be up to Brighton and Hove residents to cajole the council to perform its duties.
On the subject of bus shelters, I have always felt there should be comparable ones for the south-bound buses just opposite those mentioned above.
The existing shelters are made of modern glass and metal, which is out of keeping with the area.
