A trust which helps community groups has grants on offer of up to £2,000 to small organisations in the Brighton and Hove area.

The Scarman Trust Can Do fund is offering the grants to anyone who would like to help to set up a new group that benefits the community, or to existing community groups with a new activity.

The Scarman Trust can provide help, support and information on how a group can get started, grow and last.

To be eligible, groups must have an annual income of less than £15,000, no full-time paid staff, a constitution and a bank account in the project's name.

The groups activities should benefit people living in the Bevendean, Bristol estate, Brunswick and Regency, East Brighton, Hangleton, Knoll, Laburnham and Moyne, Hollingdean, Portslade, Portland Road and Clarendon, Queens Park and Craven Vale or Tarner areas.

Projects in the wider Brighton and Hove area can also be considered as long as they focus on health needs. The Scarman Trust wants to fund projects that make a difference to communities that are less advantaged or are excluded from opportunities.

The deadlines for applications are Monday, November 7 and Monday, February 6.
