A nightclub has given a makeover to a run-down street.

The Ocean Rooms in Morley Street, Brighton, commissioned an artist known as Speto to paint a mural on its wall near a fruit market which has been empty since it closed.

The large painting depicts a girl on roller boots being pulled by a dog in the sunshine.

Dan Selinger of the Ocean Rooms said: "We wanted to provide a bright, sunny image to lighten the mood around Morley Street. The look reflects the style of the venue - a mish-mash of nostalgia, style and modern design."

The painting also contains a quote, which has always been the case since the Ocean Rooms opened. The new line for the new frontage is the supposed Bible recital spoken by actor Samuel L Jackson in the hit film Pulp Fiction.

Mr Selinger said the painting was a bit of fun for everyone.

He said: "We could be arty-farty about the underlying meaning behind the look but we don't want to. We would rather let people decide what they think and just enjoy the art as they pass down Grand Parade."
