Nick Nurse is closing in on a new big man for his Genesis Brighton Bears.

Nurse looks set to add 6ft 7in American power forward Dennis Carr to his squad in time for Saturday's trip to Leicester Riders.

The Bears coach is promising fans some spectacular entertainment if the deal comes off.

Carr, 24, has had a globe-trotting existence since leaving Embry-Riddle University in Florida but Nurse said; "He has great energy, great athleticism and he dunks the ball like no one we have ever had.

"He's a sleeper in that no one knows much about him but we need help off the glass and he can give us that.

"He fits in with what we have got. He's a really nice guy and he's intelligent. We don't really want superstar players."

Nurse is hoping to improve Carr's ball skills during his time in the BBL.

Carr looks set to make his debut alongside Lijah Perkins, who has secured international clearance for BBL action.

Perkins missed two games last weekend while England Basketball contacted counterparts in Finland, where Perkins played last season.

Bears were outrebounded 58-45 by London Towers on Sunday as Andrew Alleyne, with 14 boards, fought a lone battle.

They will hope Perkins and Carr can help them combat the renowned rebounding talents of ex-Bear Tony Holley.

Fans will look forward to seeing Carr throwing down a few dunks. Duncan Ogilvie was the closest thing Bears had to a spectacular finisher last season while Albert White and Rico Alderson were top dunkers of recent seasons.
