I could not believe James Canon (Letters, September 30) was so proud to have seen Jerry Springer The Opera.

The show includes so much obscene language. After all, one doesn't have to be talented to use the F-word on stage.

If listening to foul-mouthed language turns you on, go down West Street, Brighton, on a Saturday night, when men and women will be swearing and blaspheming and it will not cost a penny.

I wish to point out that a most enjoyable evening can be had by seeing an amateur operatic society show. The artists work so hard and are so talented they don't have to succumb to swearing on stage. In fact, one leaves the theatre feeling as though one could have danced all night and not have to pay so much entertainment tax.
