Reading the article about Tony Blair's speech at the Labour Party conference (The Argus, September 28), I was struck by the absence of any mention of more help for the poorer sections of the community.

Does Mr Blair seriously think that benefits or the minimum wage gives an adult enough to pay ever-rising energy and utility bills - not to mention the never-ending council tax hikes?

Doesn't he understand why pensioners protest about this unfair tax - unrelated to income - with some opting to go to prison?

I am afraid the usual bland statements about challenges, bold strategies and reforms mean nothing to anyone struggling to survive on less than average wages.
