I would express sympathy to June Sullivan (Letters, October 4), who explained how her car windscreen had been damaged by a golf ball hit from the course at Roedean.

The danger is one to which Brighton and Hove City Council should give attention, as with footballs kicked from Hove Lawns.

However, Ms Sullivan states: "The person must have known which way they were hitting the ball". As a golfer of limited ability, I must disagree with this statement as I am sure will all golfers - even those with great expertise.

A golf club has a mind of its own. Despite the direction in which a player wishes to direct the ball once club and ball have met, the direction often bears no relationship to the intended objective.

A similar situation may well exist with football on the lawns - as is often illustrated at Withdean Stadium, when a penalty hits the corner flag.
