Thousands of former Rover car workers will share a £14 million payout after winning a tribunal claim for redundancy wages, it was announced.
The Transport and General Union took an employment tribunal case on behalf of workers who were waiting for their eight-week pay in lieu of notice which they were legally entitled to received.
The union said the tribunal in Birmingham had ruled in favour of the workers so around 5,000 will now benefit, sharing a payout of £14 million, which will be paid by the Government.
The union's general secretary Tony Woodley said: "While we welcome the tribunal ruling in our favour, workers and their families should not have been kept waiting for this money.
"Payment should have been made as soon as possible to prevent further hardship."
