Winger Albert Jarrett today insisted he will battle to keep his starting place in the team for Albion's clash with Cardiff at Withdean on Saturday.

Jarrett has established himself on the left-side of the Seagulls' midfield this season, playing the last eight matches after being out of favour for most of last term.

But manager Mark McGhee has warned Jarrett he might be tempted to replace him with Alexandre Frutos for the Bluebirds showdown due to a lack of consistency.

Jarrett was replaced by Frutos for the third successive game against Norwich ten days ago and his French rival scored in the 3-1 defeat.

He said: "I believe in my own ability. The staff do as well. I have shown them I can do it. I've just got to keep going, keep improving and keep learning.

"Frutos did well against Norwich but he's there to put pressure on me. That situation helps the team.

"I'm sure if he comes in he will do what he has to do to keep his place.

"But for now I am just enjoying my run. I'm not worried about Frutos. I'm not even thinking about it. It's the gaffer who makes the decision."

The Seagulls face four matches in 14 days - Cardiff, Crystal Palace, Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich - before the end of the month.

Jarrett said: "We've got to look to get wins out of the next few matches. We have been picking up points with draws but other teams behind us have been picking up more."
