With regard to a letter published last Tuesday, I would like to point out that this was the only time the fire service refused to come out and help me when the lift in my block of flats had broken down.

In the past, the fire service has always been most considerate and helpful and I have always been happy with its response.

However, on this occasion it seems the Labour conference took all Brighton and Hove's resources, including help in emergency situations such as the one I was unfortunate enough to encounter on the evening in question.

engineer.

I have since been in contact with the Brighton Fire Chief who is looking into what happened and I would also like to say I am very proud of our emergency services overall and have no complaint about how they have treated me in the past.

What is is unfortunate is that no contingency plans were put in place beforehand so a situation like my forced "entrapment" on the ground floor need never have gone the way it did in the first place.
