Ian Davies admits his Haywards Heath team need to find a finishing touch if they are to go on a long overdue winning run.

Heath went down 17-16 at home to Barnes in London One on Saturday, their last seven points coming on the final whistle as Kurt Morath converted a Jamie Redmayne try.

Davies's men are letting points slip away against teams who will probably finish down the table and the coach is concerned about it.

He believes his men are over-anxious to end a predominantly losing run which stretches back to the start of last season.

Davies said: "Barnes were probably the worst side we've played so far.

"We dominated possession and territory but we couldn't put the finishing touches to it.

"We had a couple of tries disallowed for forward passes and rightly so.

"But that came from us trying to force the game, which in turn comes from having lost too many times.

"We tried to do too much."

Morath kicked three penalties and Heath staged a late charge after former Wasps flanker Buster White was yellow-carded.

Worthing enjoyed a freerunning 54-23 home win over Old Albanian and can make a real move on the top places when they play their game in hand against Staines this Saturday.

Flanker Rob Smith and centre Gareth Richards both scored on their first London One starts and prop Gareth Emmett had a good debut to show Worthing have strength in depth.

Smith's try came out of nothing as he broke away from a maul and was the crucial score in that it gave Worthing the lead for the second and last time.

Steve Dove scored first for Worthing but they were 9-7 down until Smith's try, which was quickly followed by scores from Richards and Jamie Stuart-McDonald.

Mike Imrie, Sean Bennett and Stuart-McDonald added tries after the break but no one contributed more to the points feast than home centre Duncan Taylor.

He grabbed a late try, kicked seven conversions, including some absolute beauties, and threw out the pass ten yards from the Albanian line which was picked off, leading to the first of two interception tries for the visitors.

Lewes led 13-7 at home to leaders Portsmouth before suffering a 35-16 home defeat in London Two South.

Dave Tyrrell sold a clever dummy and got over for a try which was goaled by Neil Rumble, who had already kicked two penalties and later added a third.

Skipper Dave Hemsley returned as a replacement for Lewes after four weeks out with an ankle injury.

Sussex's three London Three South East clubs also drew a blank, the most disappointing defeat being that of Chichester.

The promotion hopefuls crashed 19-16 at Lordswood, who were bottom of the table before play.

It was a poor display by Chi but they were angry at the free-kick award from which Lordswood scored the winning try.

Chi were pulled up for delaying a scrum but argued it was because they were sending on a replacement for hooker Rob Lawrence, who had just been sin-binned.

Skipper Ben Polhill admitted: "Although a few decisions did not go our way, Lordswood deserved the win more than we did. We are very disappointed."

Chi were 12-0 down before Sam Cullen kicked three penalties and converted another great try by Lee Evans.
