Ten soccer thugs face being jailed after violence which brought fear to a city centre.

They could also receive lengthy bans from every football ground in the country after some of the worst trouble seen in Brighton for years.

All had initially denied taking part in the clashes with Leeds United fans which left a trail of devastation at two pubs last October.

Staff and witnesses told how chairs, tables and bottles were hurled through the windows of the Pump House and Yates Wine Lodge.

The violence at the Pump House in The Lanes was captured on camera by a photographer with the Albion supporters.

The images were later seized by police and used with footage from police CCTV cameras to identify many of those involved.

Police released their pictures and asked readers of The Argus to help name them. They were arrested in dawn raids in April and later charged with violent disorder.

Eight changed their pleas to guilty before they were due to stand trial on September 19.

John Mack, 49, and Sami Abulbashar, 20, maintained their innocence during a two-week trial at Hove Crown Court.

Mack, a former pub landlord of Walmer Crescent, Brighton, was found guilty but the jury was unable to reach a verdict on Abulbashar, of Stonery Road, Portslade.

He told the jury he was outside the Pump House but did not take part in the violence and left before the trouble escalated.

He was due to face a second trial on October 25 but changed his plea to guilty when he appeared at Hove Crown Court yesterday.

Abulbashar will be sentenced with the other nine defendants during a two-day hearing at Hove Crown Court on October 27 and 28.

Judge Anthony Niblett said Abulbashar had "seen sense" and changed his plea, saving the expense and inconvenience to witnesses of a retrial.

But he warned: "All sentencing options remain open but the likely outcome is that all the defendants face an inevitable custodial sentence.

"The sentence they ultimately receive will depend on the involvement of each individual."

Also facing sentence are: Joseph Phillips, 47, of Springfield Road, Brighton; Lawrence Edwards, 21, of Loder Road, Brighton; Paul Grealish, 31, of Rutland Gardens, Hove; David Hammond, 39, of Maryvale, Hollingdean, Brighton; Darren Gahan, 39, of Kings Mews, Hove; Michael Bates, 38, of Havelock Road, Brighton; Richard Jeffrey, 28, of Valley Drive, Brighton, and Ben Ripley, 34, of Walker Close, Eastbourne.
