Super-sub Colin Kazim-Richards admitted today he surprised even himself by using his head to keep Albion out of the Championship dropzone.

The young striker earned the Seagulls a 1-1 draw at fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday last night with a 93rd-minute equaliser from Seb Carole's cross.

Kazim-Richards, on in place of Jake Robinson, rose behind Charlie Oatway to head his second goal for the club since his summer move from Bury.

"If you ask anyone in training, heading isn't my game," Kazim- Richards confessed.

"I know I'm a striker but I don't really score any headers.

"The ball just came in, I shouted to Chas and, luckily, he listened.

"I was disappointed not to be in the side but I am glad to get the goal for the team because the boys worked really hard."

Albion's eighth draw in 15 Championship outings keeps them in 20th place, one point above Sheffield Wednesday, who have a game in hand.

Kazim-Richards' last-gasp point saver has put him in contention for a starting role at home to Ipswich on Saturday.

Manager Mark McGhee said: "It was an obvious substitution.

"Jake wasn't having the best of nights, although he was brilliant against Palace last week.

"Leon (Knight) hasn't scored and quite often it is the man in possession. Colin has scored the goal and we have got to consider him for a starting position on Saturday."
