Albion manager Mark McGhee is changing the pre-match routine in a bid to end his side's Withdean woes.

The players will train and have lunch together tomorrow before facing Ipswich.

McGhee is desperate to find a remedy for the miserable home form hampering the Seagulls' quest for Championship survival.

Only his old club Millwall at the bottom of the table have taken fewer points this season in front of their own fans.

Albion have won just once in their last ten outings at Withdean, against Plymouth in August.

They have drawn five times over that period, including the final day deadlock with Ipswich in May which ensured they stayed up and condemned the visitors to more play-off heartache.

Defeats by Reading, Sheffield United, Norwich and Cardiff leaves the Seagulls with a paltry Withdean return of eights points from a possible 30.

"We've got to somehow find a way of being better at home," McGhee said.

"We will be trying different things.

"We are going to train on Saturday morning, get together for lunch, anything that just gives us a bit more impetus and gets us more focused.

"It's difficult for the crowd to generate any sort of atmosphere to give us much help at all, so we have got to do it ourselves and we are trying to find ways of helping ourselves.

"That is not a criticism of the crowd. They are sitting there probably in pouring rain, families, women and children getting wet.

"We have a lot of sympathy for the away fans as well. There will be 500 from Ipswich and if it is raining they will also go away soaking wet."

McGhee will not be doing a rain dance, even though he claims the extended summer has played a part in Albion's wretched home run.

"We've had great weather and that's not helped us either. Brighton is a place people love to come to.

"They enjoy the beach and the pier and come and take points off us. We've got to make it a more difficult place but I don't hope it rains, because I don't want it raining on our supporters."

The Albion diehards braving a damp night in Yorkshire, rather than watching at home on Sky, were rewarded by another good away result at Sheffield Wednesday on Monday night.

Colin Kazim-Richards' stoppage time equaliser made it seven draws out of ten on the road to accompany wins at Rotherham and Crystal Palace and a solitary defeat at Hull.

Only seven teams have collected more away points than Albion in the Championship so far this season. They have a better record than Palace, who are fifth in the table, and Cardiff in seventh.

"It's no secret, we enjoy playing away from home more than we do at home," McGhee said. "Withdean is a poor substitute for a Championship standard stadium.

"There were 24,000 at Palace creating a tremendous atmosphere and it's always a good atmosphere at Sheffield Wednesday, a big club with high expectations. We rise to the surroundings."

Wolves, another of McGhee's old clubs, come calling after Ipswich to test the 'Withdean Factor'. Ultimately, an improvement in Albion's home form is out of the manager's hands.

Kazim-Richards admitted: "We can use loads of excuses - we haven't got a proper ground, we don't get enough fans because of the stadium - but really it's down to us on the pitch."
