Previously featuring bands such as The Electric Soft Parade, Eighties Matchbox BLine Disaster, Brakes and Turncoat, Brighton Rocks is known locally as the place to catch the city's latest hotlytipped acts.

This time, though, the bands on the bill seemed to find it hard to muster the energy to play to an audience of just 50 people.

La Momo made a valiant attempt to spice things up with a set of driving electro-rock.

However, with their screeching vocals it was hard to tell one song from the other, and they amounted to less than riveting listening.

Next came Ox, who provided some comforting but uninspiring indie-rock and, although obviously talented and with many a chart-worthy tune, Yeti-types The Magic Bullet Band also failed to greatly impress.

Finally came special guests Clearlake, whose music, I'm always pleasantly surprised to find, doubles in force with live performance. Due to time restrictions, we only heard six tracks, including new single Good Clean Fun - a down-and-dirty, drum 'n' bass-driven gem - and the marginally festive Wonder If The Snow Will Settle.

Yet again though, the performance induced yawns, and unfortunately the highlight of the whole night was the end.
