A woman appeared at Lewes Crown Court accused of murdering her mother.
Nicola Edgington, 25, is charged with killing her 60-year-old mother last month.
Marion Edgingtons body was found in the kitchen of her home in Upper Close, Forest Row, near East Grinstead, in the early hours of November 5 by her son Thomas, 23, and youngest daughter Sara, 20.
She had been stabbed.
Nicola Edgington, whose address was given as a night shelter in Walthamstow, east London, did not enter a plea during a brief hearing at the crown court.
She was remanded in custody by Judge Richard Brown until February 17.
Marion Edgington was separated from her husband and lived with a new partner.
She had retired but volunteered to do errands for elderly people in the village.
