With regard to The Argus's front-page photos of the Lewes district councillors who voted to appeal against the Falmer Stadium, Fiona Monro wrote: "This is a disgraceful way to depict democratically-elected members of society" (December 2).

But wouldn't it have been democratic for the councillors to have at least asked Lewes district residents (who voted them in to work on their behalf) whether they wanted the council to fight John Prescott's decision first, before announcing their plans to do so?

After all, it will be the residents' money they will be wasting.
