After the recent media coverage of George Best's death and funeral, I find it surprising he is being solely remembered for his football skills and not the abuse of alcohol which led to his destruction and, no doubt, years of family upset.

Why is the nation effectively condoning his alcoholism?

With talk of a statue being erected in his honour in Belfast, I think it is time we questioned his suitability as the sort of idol our children should be encouraged to look up to.

Surely his life should be used as an example for British youth of how not to behave, instead?
