The Argus Christmas Bus will be travelling through the streets of Patcham in Brighton this evening as it continues its festive fund-raising journey.

Santa and his helpers will set off from the clock tower opposite the Ladies Mile Pub in Mackie Avenue at 6.30pm and visit nearby streets to raise money for The Argus Appeal and the Martlets Hospice.

The helpers include volunteers from local businesses and individuals and they will be calling on as many people as possible to show their support.

Appeal co-ordinator Elsa Gillio said: "It has been going really well so far and people are being very supportive and generous.

"We are delighted and hope to make this an annual event."

Sponsored by Legal and General, the bus is covered in fairy lights and will play music as it gathers money for the appeal's work to help needy people across Sussex and the Hove-based hospice.

Angela Robertshaw, Legal and General's head of public relations, said:

"Legal and General has supported The Argus Appeal for a number of years and is still hugely impressed by the creativity and enthusiasm demonstrated by the trustees and volunteers.

"Taking Santa to see Brighton and Hove is a marvellous new idea."

Anyone who would like to help Santa on the Christmas bus can call Peter at the Martlets on 01273 747455.
