A businessman who describes himself as the original "Del Boy" has come to the aid of a charity shop which had money for its staff Christmas Party stolen.

Derek Tullett, 71, who runs a car and a security business in Hove, read about the SCOPE charity shop, Boundary Road, Hove, being raided in The Argus. The raiders ransacked the shop and stole £100 from a safe, which was to be used for the Christmas party.

He said: "With all my ducking and diving in the local business world over the years, I thought I would give something back to the volunteer charity workers. I regard myself as the original Del Boy. I am like the character Sir David Jason played in Only Fools And Horses."

Julie Smith, shop manager, who was close to tears when she opened up and found the back of the shop smashed up by raiders on Tuesday morning, said: "I am over the moon at Dereks generosity and so are the volunteers. Our staff party can now go ahead."
