Singalong hits such as Bartender And The Thief, Have A Nice Day and Just Looking established Stereophonics as one of the most successful bands of recent years, although genuine acclaim and credibility has generally eluded them.
Saddled with a dull 'bloke rock' tag, the band struck back at critics who held that their only good record was their first by releasing the single Mr Writer, and it's testament to their huge and loyal fanbase that Kelly Jones et al are back in Brighton following a sell-out gig at the Dome in the summer.
This year has definitely seen a turnaround in the 'Phonics' fortunes.
A new drummer - Argentinian Javier Weyler - has finally been recruited to replace their original sticksman Stuart Cable, and he seems to have given their music and career a new lease of life.
Their darker, edgier and surprisingly well-received fifth album, Language. Sex. Violence. Other?, went platinum within a week and spawned their first number one single, Dakota.
With new material, a live album and a European tour with Oasis in the offing, next year should be just as profitable for the Welsh wonders.
Starts 7.30pm, tickets £27.50 SOLD OUT. Call 0870 900100.
