Albion manager Mark McGhee today backed his team to maintain the unpredictable nature of the Championship by toppling leaders Reading.

The Seagulls have already visited six of the sides in the top ten and they have not lost to any of them.

Rock-bottom Millwall won at Wolves and led at both Sheffield United and Crystal Palace before letting in late equalisers.

Even Crewe, the other club currently in the relegation zone, have beaten Leeds and Luton this season.

McGhee, preparing his players for their toughest test to date at the Madejski Stadium tomorrow, admitted: "I don't think there is anyone on the planet, apart from in Brighton, who thinks we can win.

"We do. We know how difficult it will be but we think somewhere in the group that we've got there's a performance that can beat anybody.

"It's just if we can produce it but it's there. I think we can give them a helluva scare."

Seb Carole is on course to win his fitness battle. Albion's influential French right winger, stretchered off with a twisted ankle during last Saturday's 1-1 draw at Watford, resumed training at Withdean yesterday.

"I feel better," Carole said. "It was still a bit painful but I will continue treatment and I think I will be okay.

"It's a fantastic game to play in. Reading are a good team. It's a long time since they lost but we'll be trying to beat them.

"We don't have to be scared of them. We drew 1-1 at Watford, who were third in the table, and we won at Crystal Palace. I think we can win this game as well."
