Jack And The Beanstalk has climbed the heights of traditional pantomime with this slick, fast and colourful show.

Twiggy twinkles as the billed star of the show. The girl who found fame at the age of 16 as a model is now a competent actress, singer and dancer some 40 years later in this production directed by her husband Leigh Lawson.

She still looks good but her fleeting appearances on stage as Fairy Sweetpea do not justify her star billing.

Add a host of highly-experienced actors, some with Shakespearean experience, glamorous members of the ensemble and youngsters from local dance academies and you have the right panto mix.

A lot of thought has gone into creating this panto from First Family Entertainment, an arm of the Ambassador Theatre Group, which owns the Theatre Royal.

For two and a half hours, you can escape into the magical world of giants and romance with plenty to laugh and shout about.

Boos come quickly as Fleshcreep, played by Simon Shepherd, appears in a burst of flash lighting. Best known for his role as GP Will Preston in Peak Practice, his stage presence is the backbone of the production.

Ian Good as Dame Trot loses no time in picking on those in the stalls for a bit of audience participation.

Another actor thoroughly enjoying extending his extensive acting career by joining the panto family, Bill Buckley, the afternoon show presenter on BBC Southern Counties Radio, plays the flustered King with some style.

Every panto needs a chirpy chappie and Jack, played by Chris Till, is the epitome of such a role. With his pop star looks and fine singing voice, he is slick and charming.

Steven O'Neill blends well as Silly Billy with Anna Williamson sparkling as the sugary Jill.

This panto family seem to be really enjoying themselves. Adults and children alike will love it.
