American whizzkid Chris Kerr today admitted he would relish the chance to jump in at the deep end with Eastbourne Eagles.

But the 21-year-old from California has revealed he expects to kick-off his British career in the second-tier Premier League next season.

Kerr finished third in the individual event and impressed greatly in Sunday's Brighton Bonanza.

His performance will have interested Eastbourne promoter Jon Cook and also Wolverhampton, who were represented at the Brighton Centre and are believed to be ready to make the American an offer.

Kerr, who headed back to San Francisco today, said: "I'd like to start out in the Premier League and get used to the atmosphere, the tracks and everything rather than jump right in at the deep end.

"If I could get in the Premier League it would be a really good experience and I could then move on.

"I've been really busy, Jon has been really busy but we will trade numbers and see what we can work out.

"If I get offered a job in the Elite League I can't say no to that."

Cook was impressed by Kerr and also Lubos Tomicek, the Czech who came in as a late replacement for Oliver Allen and looked far better than when he rode for Oxford at Arlington last summer.

The Eagles promoter, who also helps run the Bonanza, insists performances in the close confines of the Brighton Centre can offer an indication as to what a rider could do outdoors.

But he is aware of Wolverhampton's interest in Kerr.

Cook said: "Chris and Lubos looked good. I have to say I'm impressed. I wasn't expecting Lubos to look so good.

"If a rider can ride a track like this it means he is technically very good.

"My team plans are up in the air at moment.

"I think Chris is probably earmarked for somewhere in the Midlands which is where Americans usually end up for whatever reason.

"It must be quite a contrast for them when they come over from California to live in the Midlands.

"But at this moment I have a few different options open to me."

The new season gets underway on March 11, exactly three months after the Bonanza.
