A board game based on the trials and tribulations of a Brighton and Hove cabbie has hit the shops in time for Christmas.

The aim of Destination Brighton and Hove is to make as much money as possible by the end of a shift in one of the city's distinctive white and turquoise taxis.

The game, on sale at WH Smith in Churchill Square at £19.99, features landmarks including the Royal Pavilion, the piers and The Grand.

Inventor Rachel Lowe hopes it will repeat the success of its predecessor, Destination London, the top-selling board game at Hamley's last Christmas.

Miss Lowe, 30, launched Destination London last year after appearing on the BBC2 show Dragon's Den, which sees budding entrepreneurs pitching ideas to rich potential investors.

Her idea was savaged and she walked away empty-handed but now the game is being hailed as the new Monopoly.

Destination London was followed by Portsmouth, her home town, and now Brighton.

She said: "I chose it because it is a very well-known city with lots of attractions and lots of people visit.

"The unique taxi livery also jumped out at me and the Brighton version will be our most distinctive.

"I used to be a cab driver so the game is based on my experiences. You can get points on your licence and if you get too many you lose your licence.

"We went on sale late last week and I am expecting it to fly off the shelves."

Miss Lowe returns to TV on December 21 as Dragons Den visits people from the last series to find out how they are doing.
