Dreamsleap Theatre, a visiting company, invited members of the audience to recount any dream they had experienced and then went on to recreate it through improvisation and mime.

The idea promised much in its conception but sadly disappointed in the execution.

The overall result smacked of self-indulgence by its four cast members and one was reminded of self-conscious children playing at charades.

The improvisations lacked a disciplined backbone and came across with an air of pretentious New Age feyness.

There were long pauses which suggested the actors did not know what to say and when they did the dialogue was inaudible or trite.

The dream evening became a nightmare.

The only outstanding feature was the atmospheric musical accompaniment provided by Paul Johnson, using a variety of Asian instruments. Time and time again I found my attention wandering from the action towards his playing.
