Crawley boss John Hollins has targeted winning the Sussex Senior Cup after seeing his side ease into the quarter-finals.

A weakened Reds side beat Eastbourne Borough at the Broadfield Stadium to set up a last-eight clash at home to Bognor.

First-half goals from Tris Whitman and Jamie Cade settled a dull game, which was bizarrely interrupted by a fire alarm.

Crawley are the highest placed team left in the competition after Albion Reserves were knocked out by Horsham.

Hollins said: "Our aim is to have some silverware to show for our hard work at the end of the season.

"I want to win every competition we are in so we will be fully focused on going through the next round.

"Teams will come and make it difficult for us like Eastbourne Borough did so it is up to us to make sure we maintain out standards in every game."

The talking point of the first half was not something that happened on the pitch. A fire alarm in the main stand stopped the game for 15 minutes as the spectators had to go on to the playing surface until the fire brigade gave the all clear.

Crawley were already ahead by then courtesy of a tenth-minute strike by Whitman.

The on-loan striker beat two challenges as he ran along the edge of the box and fired into the bottom corner.

Whitman was one of only six first team players in their Reds line-up as Hollins chose not to take any risks ahead of Saturday's FA Trophy trip to Stevenage.

Another, Cade, doubled the lead on 23 minutes after play had resumed.

Cade, who returned after two weeks out with a dead leg, latched on to a neat lay-off by Whitman and slotted passed Lee Hook with ease from six yards.

Borough, who were also not at full strength with five changes from the weekend, only had one clear chance in the first 45 minutes.

Former Crawley striker Dan Marney had a snap-shot deflected just wide after the ball fell kindly to him on the penalty spot from a corner.

The second half was abysmal and left the sparse crowd wishing they had not bothered to endure the cold.

In one of only a few moments of excitement, Kim Grant should have added a third for Reds ten minutes after the break when he headed unmarked straight into Hook's arms.

Whitman then went close with a turn and shot from the edge of the area which flashed over the top.

Wilson brought on pacy striker Yemi Odubade for the last 15 minutes and he forced a good save out of Scott Ward with a rising half-volley.

Borough manager Garry Wilson said: "We did not get going until half an hour into the game and by that time we were 2-0 down and it was too late.

"We did not really deserve to get anything out of it because we struggled to create much going forward."

Lewes have been handed a home tie against County League opposition in the quarter-finals of the Senior Cup. The Rooks will entertain the winners of tonight's clash between Eastbourne Town and Mile Oak. Horsham also have County League opposition as they visit either Hassocks or Wealden. The winners of Worthing and Hastings will be away to Shoreham.
