A bogus policeman is trying to rip off Sussex businesses. He telephones claiming to be from Sussex Police and offers advertising space in a force magazine.
A number of Brighton businesses have been contacted by the trickster who claims the new magazine will be circulated to local schools.
A police spokesperson said: "We believe this to be a scam, operated by someone using the Sussex Police name to try and extort money from businesses for a magazine which is certainly not linked to Sussex Police and may not even exist at all.
"We ask that businesses ensure they are dealing with a legitimate advertising company before they part with any money."
