I would like to thank The Argus for re-running the high and low points between 1990 and 2005 (December 31, 2005, and January 1, 2006).
Most poignant for me was to re-read the details in the article entitled The Agony of Volgograd.
Back in February 1991, I am sure along with virtually every reader, my eyes could not remain dry as I read about the tragedy and despair of Russia's Volgograd inhabitants.
The Argus Christmas Appeal was still fresh in my memory even though I had planned to "retire" from the regular collecting which had been a high point for me for several Christmases past before this one.
Volgograd's terrible suffering brought me back to reality with great abruptness and a new sign was soon made to replace The Argus Appeal one recently removed from my car's roof.
With collecting boxes re-labelled, it was back into action.
To alleviate the agony of Volgograd's suffering, The Argus Appeal raised
an incredible £100,000.
I am so glad I was able to be of some help in this hour of need.
