A packed house is expected at a meeting today as councillors discuss the future of one of Sussex's main roads.

The A27 will be discussed during Arun District Council's full meeting being held at Littlehampton Civic Centre at 6pm.

A bypass around Arundel has long been mooted as a possible solution to traffic woes on the A27 but the idea was put on hold by the Government in 2004.

The meeting is also due to debate the Government's South-East Plan which sets out the future of the region.

Councillors and members of the South-East England Regional Assembly are expected to talk about how much housing will be built in Sussex, improvements to rail links and how rural areas will be protected from development.

Arun District Youth Council is also due to make a request to lay wreaths on Remembrance Day.

A spokesman said: "Meetings of the full Arun District Council are open to members of the public, and attendance is often varied, depending on the issues being discussed.

"However, the council is expecting a bigger turn-out than usual, with people eager to hear the debate over the South-East Plan.
