A broadcaster is planning to reunite the Spice Girls for a ground-breaking documentary.

Freelance radio producer Wayne Imms, from Kemp Town, Brighton, has been commissioned to mark the tenth anniversary of the group's debut.

Wayne, 36, is accustomed to interviewing music giants such as Tim Rice, Chrissy Hynde, Pete Townsend, Tom Jones, Phil Collins, Lionel Richie and the Pet Shop Boys.

Even as a hospital radio DJ he was interviewing major stars such as Sigourney Weaver and Noel Gallagher and charming his way into the Brit Awards.

He now hopes to interview all five members of the band that won fans across the world by advocating "girl power".

He said: "I have spoken to 19 Management who look after Victoria and Emma.

"You have to be really persistent chasing interviews. I always get quite excited when I put the phone down and I have got an interview."

Wayne has just returned from Beverly Hills, where he interviewed some of the leading figures behind Star Trek including Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock.

Wayne works with Pier Productions, which has a studio in Marlborough Place, Brighton.

Wayne managed to interview Noel Gallagher in 1997 after waiting outside his house for three hours.

He scooped MTV and Radio 1 by securing a talk with Sigourney Weaver at the opening of an Alien-theme ride in Picadilly Circus in 1993 at the time of Alien 3.

He talked his way on to a coach full of celebrities at the Baftas in 1996.

He said: "I'm quite good at gate-crashing things. I saw Richard and Judy queuing up and I got on the coach.

"I was literally brushing shoulders with people like Kate Winslet, Michael Barrymore and Nigel Hawthorne. It was really quite surreal."

Wayne says his ambition is to make shows about Steven Spielberg, his favourite film director, and about Brighton and Hove.

He said: "I love Brighton. I have lived here for five-and-a-half years. There are so many great things about the place."

The Spice Girls show is scheduled for this summer. 19 Management said its plans to mark the tenth anniversary of The Spice Girls had not yet been finalised.
