Reggae blended with punk, rock, and drum 'n' bass shouldn't really work.

But for some reason for Bedouin Soundclash it really does, and it worked particularly well tonight.

The trio from Toronto played an upbeat set to a Brighton crowd ready and waiting for it, blowing away the post-Christmas blues and warming a cold night in the middle of a grim January.

Shadow Of A Man, Rude Boy Don't Cry, Money Worries and crowd-pleaser When The Night Feels My Song went down a storm, as did an unusual collection of cover versions of tracks by Kaiser Chiefs, The Clash and U2.

Bedouin Soundclash probably won't cross over to mainstream chart success in the UK or sell out large arenas. But that's unlikely to bother a band who clearly love the intimacy of gigs like this - or the fans who get to bounce along with them.
