Fashion guru Wayne Hemmingway was guest of honour at a council meeting discussing business rates.

The television designer, who lives in Itchenor, near Chichester, spoke at Chichester District Council's annual business rates meeting.

Mr Hemingway, who sold his fashion empire Red or Dead to concentrate on building design, talked about developments in Chichester and the city's potential for ground-breaking architecture.

Michelle Hare, from Thomas Eggar, one of a number of businesses attending, said: "It was a good opportunity to meet other Chichester-based businesses and to hear views on issues which affect us all.

"The contribution from Wayne Hemingway was particularly thought-provoking and generated some interesting debate on the future of Chichester."

The district council told delegates about its budget for 2006 and ran through changes affecting businesses.
