Francis Vines has confirmed to The Argus that he is taking Crawley to an employment tribunal.

The former Reds boss is demanding compensation after he was sacked last October.

Vines, who was offered a three-year full-time contract during the summer, has not received a penny since he left the Conference club.

Former assistant manager Dave Swindlehurst is also believed to be going through the same process after he was dismissed in September. General manager Paul Hobbs declined to comment.

Vines was the most successful manager in the club's history after leading them to seven major trophies during his two-and-a-half-year spell in charge.

The club's owners, the SA Group, gave him their full backing when they bought the club from John Duly last July but lost patience after a poor start to the season.

Reds won three of their first 14 league games and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Ryman League side Braintree.

Midfielder Simon Wormull, who was appointed caretaker-boss after Vines' exit, is also in dispute with Crawley over money.

He claims he agreed a two-year contract during his time in charge, which has since been withdrawn.

Wormull, whose current deal runs out this summer, says he will leave if he does not get the terms he was originally offered.

Meanwhile, Hobbs has confirmed manager John Hollins can sign new players as long as he trims his squad first.

He said: "It's up to John to come and say what he wants to change and we will try to help him. But you have to balance the books. We have quite a big squad and it cannot keep growing."

Reds midfielder Joe Keehan has signed permanently for Eastbourne Borough after impressing on a month's loan.

Murray Jones has quit as Burgess Hill
assistant manager, just 48 hours after taking the job.

He agreed to join the Hillians last Wednesday but had a late change of heart before Saturday's 2-0 home win against Dulwich Hamlet.

Boss Gary Croydon said: "I do feel badly let down by him but I also understand that these things happen in football.

"I chose him because he had the best CV but he has gone to a better level of football."

Jones revealed: "I had a really positive meeting with Gary where we spoke about the club and their ambitions for the future.

"I was very keen to assist Gary and work with him but I had had a couple of other offers which are still pending.

"Unfortunately, it was one of those awkward decisions with bad timing."

Croydon has reinstated Jim Thompson and Peter Miles as his assistants.
