I have learned the working party set up by Brighton and Hove City Council to resolve the gross social injustice of the way secondary school admissions work in this city is recommending that the present, totally inequitable system, be maintained for the September 2007 intake.

Frankly, I am appalled. But as this council sows, so may it reap. All is not lost. I remind all those who live in the following areas of Brighton there are local council elections in May 2007: East Brighton, Queen's Park, Hanover and Elm Grove, St Peter's and North Laine, Regency, Brunswick and Adelaide and Goldsmid.

When councillors come knocking on your door, wanting your vote, ask them how their party voted on schools admissions.

An equal opportunity council? Not when it comes to schools.
