One after another, the Government has announced various plans to save us all.

Firstly, they announced Regional Fire Controls, which involves the building of nine new Emergency Fire Control Centres and closing 47 existing ones at a cost of £1.7 billion.

Apparently, it will pay for itself over the next 17 to 20 years.

In the region of 96 per cent of fire officers, firefighters and, most importantly, control staff have said this is not necessary and will not save any time when responding to calls.

The Government itself has also said the technology which will be used will be a step backwards for some fire services.

Next, the Government announced Regional Police Services. Yet we hear via the media that ALL Chief Police Officers have said they do not want this change as it will not work.

Once again this scheme is expected to involve an astronomical cost and will not improve anything. Now a new health plan to save us all from ourselves has been announced.

Why is this Government so hellbent on rationalisation, why do they not listen to the people who have to work the systems, and where is all the money going to come from?

So far, both police and fire professionals have stated that what is on offer and is being forced through is not wanted. Spend the money on health and education or, even better, leave things as they are "if it ain't broke don't fix it".
