Wyndeham Press Group's reputation as a business punching above its weight was bolstered after it was awarded a three-year contract with Emap worth £20 million.

The Hove-based print specialist will print 28 titles, including Golf World, Practical Photography, Classic Cars and Improve Your Coarse Fishing.

They will be printed on the company's new 64-page press.

The deal follows the recent merger of its Epping-based screen printing business Wyndeham Blacketts with its sister company, Wyndeham Westway, in Luton.

Wyndeham, based in Hove Street, valued at £61 million, has undergone a major overhaul since 2003 when profits fell by almost a third to £4.4 million.

It decided to get out of trouble by investing heavily in new printing equipment and streamlining the business, which has 14 sites dotted all over the country.

Last November it announced half-year profits had jumped 22 per cent to £3.8 million on a small rise of turnover from £69 million to £71 million.

According to the group the latest deal "significantly expands Wyndeham's relationship with Emap."

Wyndeham Impact and Wyndeham Hubbard, the group's specialist cover printers, will also benefit with the award of a number of new Emap covers.

Wyndeham boss Paul Utting said: "Our strategy is to focus on the multi-pagination titles and we are very pleased with the outcome of the tender."

Wyndeham prints 650 titles. Its other major contracts are with The National Magazine Company and Haymarket Publishing, the largest private magazine publisher in the UK.
