I felt so sorry for the puppy which escaped from its Woodingdean garden only to be knocked down by a car (The Argus January 27). Then, reading on, I became just as sorry for the little dog's owners.
Regarding the vet's fees charged, £1,000 upfront and then another £2,000 to follow, plus extras and VAT, no doubt. VAT should not be charged on animal suffering.
How is it possible for ordinary people on an average income to afford such high bills? Small wonder there are so many unwanted cats and dogs around. It's a shame we are being priced out of owning a pet.
