With reference to concern over home closure (The Argus, February 3), many care homes are closing due to lack of funds and the fact they cannot afford to bring themselves up to government standards.

The Government should subsidise the work involved to bring the homes up to the required standards. Something must be done to alleviate the stress and strain caused to pensioners by uncertainty over their future.

If all fails, perhaps we could call on the think tanks for a solution. After all, they are paid £4m by local councils for their bright ideas.
