Three Sussex men have been arrested in connection with the attempted kidnap of a 30-year-old woman.

A 28-year-old man from Haywards Heath and two men from Brighton, 27 and 38, last night were freed on bail and ordered to surrender to police again on March 23.

Police were continuing to unravel the reasons behind the incident.

The Argus understands it may have involved a dispute over money.

It appears the three suspects and a fourth man, a 41-year-old from Essex, claim they were owed money by the woman's husband.

Armed police were called to the scene on Thursday morning when a white van pulled up alongside the woman. She was close to her £400,000 home in Rendlesham near Woodbridge, Suffolk, when the gang got out of the vehicle and tried to bundle her inside.

Witnesses said the offenders may have been armed but specialist firearm police called to the scene later found no gun.

The occupants of the van allegedly assaulted the woman, attempted to abduct her but fled when she struggled and screamed.

Suffolk Police officers later surrounded and stopped a vehicle in the nearby village of Eyke.

Four men were arrested on suspicion of attempted abduction. Officers said the woman involved was "uninjured and safe".

She was recovering later at her home.

The woman and her husband, in his mid 30s, moved into the five-bedroom newly-built house four months ago.

They previously lived in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, close to where one of the four men arrested came from.

The husband of the victim would not talk to reporters yesterday other than to say: "This is a personal matter."

Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk Police.
