Based on a Russian fairytale, With A Doll In Her Pocket has all the right ingredients for a mesmerising theatrical experience: Innocence, beauty and the ugly face of evil.
Colourful characters include the sweet young girl Vasilisa, a talking doll, a wicked stepmother and her gruesome daughters, and Baba Yaga - a witch who travels by pestle and mortar.
Interactive, symbolic and imaginative, Italian theatre company Teatro delle Briciole, prove narrative power, simple dramatic devices and stage sets can still captivate even in our high-tech age. The show is aimed at four-eight year olds, but its deeper meanings will resonate with adults too.
This is the first English language production of Bruno Stori's Con la Nambola in Tasca. Performer Laura Magni, with the help of members of the audience, will take on the parts of Vasilisa and the primeval witch, whose connection with fire makes her as much a force for life as for destruction.
Her accent and use of gesture successfully evoke a foreign land which combines gentle menace with fascination, where magic is real and houses move on chicken's legs.
Starts 11am and 2pm. Tickets cost £6-8. Call 01273 709709
