Tommy Elphick has been added to the Albion squad for tomorrow's trip to Plymouth.

The young centre half impressed manager Mark McGhee in Wednesday's FA Youth Cup quarter-final exit on penalties against Newcastle at St James' Park.

"I thought he did really well and I want to start including him," McGhee said. "He seems to be next in line."

Elphick made his first senior appearance as a substitute at Reading in December, when older brother Gary was sent-off on his full debut. He has been an unused sub four times since then, the last against Leeds at Withdean in mid-January.

Elphick's fellow youth teamers Joel Lynch and Joe Gatting are expected to play a part again at Plymouth, despite their exertions on Wednesday.

"They did the same thing at Blackburn in the last round, remember, and were absolutely fine," McGhee said. "They had a massage and warm down up in Newcastle yesterday and they suffered no scrapes or bumps in the game."

Dean Hammond, rested to the bench for last Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Crewe, returns to the starting line-up at the expense of Kerry Mayo or Alex Frutos.

Paul Reid is back in contention after recovering from a viral infection, with Gary Hart banned alongside Paul McShane.

Albion will also have the vocal support tomorrow of veteran defender Jason Dodd, who had a spell on loan to Plymouth from Southampton last season. Dodd, out since November with back trouble, has resumed full training.

McGhee said: "He's not fit enough yet to be included but he will travel with us. He knows Plymouth, he's a good voice now that he's back on the training ground and he wants to contribute in any way he can."
