Armed police arrested a man in connection with Britain's biggest cash heist during a dawn raid at a Sussex address.

Albanian national Ermir Hysenaj, 28, a worker at the Securitas depot robbed of £53 million, was woken at 6am as officers smashed down his door at a house in New Road, Crowborough.

He was arrested and was questioned in connection with the robbery at the depot in Tonbridge, Kent, for much of the day but was released without charge late last night.

Hysenaj, a also known as "Nick" was the 14th person to be arrested as part of Kent Police's investigations into the heist which was executed with "military precision". The raid took place as two car dealers and a hairdresser accused of being involved in the robbery faced court for the first time yesterday.

Hysenaj was unavailable for comment last night but his girlfriend Sue Lee earlier told The Argus how she and her boyfriend, who until the time of the robbery was a money counter at the depot, were asleep prior to the police raid.

She said officers surrounded the house, ploughed through the front door and then dragged Hysenaj naked from the bed.

He was held at Tonbridge police station while he was questioned by detectives.

Miss Lee has protested her boyfriend's innocence and condemned the treatment she says the couple received during the arrest.

Miss Lee said: "There was loads of shouting and a huge crash as they came through the front door of the building and then hammered on the door to our flat.

"They dragged him out of bed without really telling us what was going on. It was extremely scary.

"I know he is absolutely one hundred per cent innocent. If he had been up to anything I would have known about it."

Steph Schooler, 16, who lives above the couple in an upstairs flat, said she was woken by officers hammering on her door and shining torches through her window.

She said police officers would not allow her out of her flat while they arrested Hysenaj and separated her from Miss Lee throughout.

Miss Schooler said: "I thought I was dreaming to begin with and then these huge torches came beaming through my back window.

"It was so hectic. There was a huge crash as they got through the door and they kept asking me who I was.

"They then slammed the door in my face and told me I had to stay inside the flat.

"When I looked out of the front door there were so many police officers out there I couldn't see the other side of the street."

Miss Lee has lived in the modest downstairs flat in New Road with Hysenaj for around two and a half years.

The couple have been together since 2000 and Hysenaj worked at the Securitas depot for only a short period on a temporary contract.

Hysenaj was just coming to the end of that contract and planned to join the Post Office when the robbery took place.

In the aftermath of the robbery all staff at the Kent depot were told not to go in to work until the police investigation had ended.

Officers spent around two and a half hours searching the couple's flat yesterday.

Kent Police issued a brief statement, which said: "This morning officers from the inquiry team made their 14th arrest since the raid on February 22."
