Kicking off a brand-new set and tour on home ground is a good idea.
Fluffed cues, pointless anecdotes and reading lyrics not yet learned are roughnesses a familiar audience will tolerate and which can be smoothed out as the tour progresses.
Barb Jungr's return to the Komedia had all these faults but she carried the evening with her relentless professional good humour.
Displaying an extraordinary vocal range from a tender husky alto on Dylan's Tomorrow Is A Long Time to Judy Garland-like rich hardness, she explored a range of songs in the blues/gospel vein.
These were interspersed with Dylan songs, mostly from his Christian phase, including a wonderful reading of Every Grain Of Sand, marred only by the aforementioned glances at the lyric sheet.
Her two accompanists provided a delightfully muted setting for her voice, which meant for the first time ever at the Komedia I could hear every word sung.
This set will be recorded in May for album release in October and, if these teething problems are sorted out, it will be a corker.
