Gordon Brown's decison to make bus travel free for pensioners may well put more buses on our roads.
However, we can now expect more elderly people to be able to visit their children, grandchildren and friends to the benefit of their social activities.
This should add to the quality of their lives and so reduce the demands on the NHS.
It is to be regretted that, unlike many other Sussex authorities, Brighton and Hove City Council is unable to extend this facility to areas outside the borough. Perhaps it could find a way of providing it for those pensioners on benefit.
