Launched in 1994, Richard Alston Dance company has grown into one of Britains most celebrated contemporary companies.

After making their Brighton Dome debut in January 2005 they are now returning with two new pieces and a stand-out piece of last year.

The brand new Volumina is danced to the music of acclaimed Hungarian composer Gyorgy Ligeti. Mysterious and ghostly, it combines subtle rustlings and sudden eruptions.

Such Longing is accompanied by the music of Chopin - not just pretty waltzes or virtuoso fireworks but nocturnes and etudes, sadder works, which he is said to have composed while longing for his Polish homeland.

Gypsy Mixture takes its inspiration from the acclaimed compilation album Electric Gypsyland. Theres swooping melodies and complex rhythms of traditional gipsy songs, remixed by club producers from around the world.

Alston is one of the most influential figures in British dance. He choreographed his first work in 1968 as one of the original students at London School of Contemporary Dance. He will give a pre-show talk tonight, at 7pm, at the Corn Exchange, New Road. Free for ticket holders.

Starts 8pm. Tickets £6-£15. Call 01273 709709.
